Common Questions
Clarity begins with
a question.
Starting therapy can come with questions. We’ve gathered the things people most often want to know before taking that first step.
Try: confidentiality, first session, booking, online therapy...
01 What happens during my first session?
Your first session is a gentle introduction. We’ll listen to what brought you here, explore what you’re hoping for, and move at a pace that feels safe. There’s no script you need to follow — arriving unsure is completely welcome.
02 How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If something feels heavy, stuck, or unclear — and you’d like a supportive space to understand it — therapy can help. You don’t need a crisis to begin. Curiosity, overwhelm, transitions, and wanting more ease are all valid reasons to start.
03 Is everything I share confidential?
Yes. What you share is held with professional care and confidentiality. Rare exceptions exist only where safety or legal requirements apply — such as serious risk of harm — and we’ll speak about these boundaries with clarity.
04 How often should I attend therapy?
Many people begin weekly, then adjust as life and progress allow. Frequency is personal — we’ll find a rhythm that supports continuity without pressure, and revisit it together as needs change.
05 Can I change my therapist?
The relationship matters. If the fit doesn’t feel right, you’re encouraged to speak about it. We can explore adjustments, referrals, or other supportive paths so you feel held by the right care.
Your first session doesn’t have to be perfect.
Many people arrive unsure about what to say, what to expect, or whether therapy will feel right for them. That’s completely okay.

Getting started · First session · Choosing therapy
01 Do I need to prepare anything for my first session?
Nothing formal. A quiet space, a little time beforehand to arrive in yourself, and whatever feels true to share are enough. Notes are welcome if they help — never required.
02 How do I choose the right kind of therapy?
We’ll talk about what you’re carrying and what support may suit you. The “right” approach is the one that feels safe, collaborative, and useful for your goals — not a one-size label.
03 Is it normal to feel nervous before starting?
Completely. Nervousness often means the work matters. We’ll meet that feeling with patience — there’s no performance expected of you.
Your Sessions
Session length · Frequency · Therapeutic approach
01 How long is a typical session?
Most sessions are around 45–60 minutes, creating enough space for depth without overwhelm. Exact timing is confirmed when you book.
02 What approach does O-SAAR take?
We work with warmth, presence, and evidence-informed care — listening deeply, reflecting gently, and supporting insight at your pace. The relationship itself is part of the healing.
03 Will I have work to do between sessions?
Sometimes we may suggest gentle reflections or practices. They’re invitations, not assignments — always offered with respect for your capacity.
Trust & Privacy
Confidentiality · Information protection · Online privacy
01 When might confidentiality have limits?
If there is serious risk of harm to yourself or others, or when the law requires disclosure, confidentiality may be limited. These boundaries exist to protect safety and are discussed with care.
02 How is my information protected?
We use secure practices for storage and communication, with limited access to those who need it for your care. See our Privacy Policy for fuller detail.
03 Are online sessions private?
We use secure platforms and ask that you join from a private space. Sessions are never recorded without clear, mutual consent.
Practical Details
Booking · Payments · Cancellation · Rescheduling
01 How do I book a session?
You can begin through our Book Session page. Share a little about yourself, and we’ll follow up thoughtfully to find a suitable time.
02 How do payments work?
Session fees and secure payment options are confirmed before you begin. Invoices or receipts can be provided when needed.
03 What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Life happens. Please give reasonable notice so we can offer the time to someone else. We’ll do our best to find a new slot that works for both of us.
Online Therapy
Technical requirements · Privacy · Connection issues
01 What do I need for online sessions?
A private space, a stable internet connection, and preferably headphones. Join a few minutes early so you can settle before we begin.
02 What if my connection drops?
We’ll reconnect patiently. If the link remains unstable, we can continue by phone or reschedule — your care comes first.
03 Is online therapy as meaningful as in person?
For many people, yes. Presence, trust, and attentiveness travel well across a secure screen — especially when your space feels private and comfortable.
Safety
Your safety comes first.
O-SAAR provides therapeutic support, but it is not an emergency or crisis-response service.
Emergency Support →01 What should I do in a crisis?
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services or go to the nearest hospital. Our Emergency Support page also lists calm next steps and resources.
02 What are the limits of online therapy in emergencies?
Online therapy cannot replace emergency response, hospital care, or 24/7 crisis intervention. In urgent moments, local emergency services are the right path.
